Cheb niches
This project had started in 2005 and it’s goal is to fill the empty niches and cartouches in historical reservation of Cheb with works of contemporary artists.

-unveiling- of first 4 sculptures in niches was accompanied by artists, city council members and broad public. Project is going to continue for next few years, with it’s final stage in 2011 on the occasion of celebrating 950 years of the first historical reference of city Cheb. In it’s first round of project, four Czech artists realised their visions. Sculptures “Madona” (5) of Zdeňka Svobodová from Cheb and “St. Francis of Assisi” (6) of Miloslav Svoboda are located in Dlouhá street. Jaroslav Róna from Prague created a bronze statue of “David and Goliath” which is placed on the Špalíček (2). Near this statue, also on the Špalíček, there is “Maria” of Jindra Viková from Prague (1).

Second run of filling the niches and cartouches took place in December 2008 - two art pieces of Cheb sculptor and painter Jiří Černý can be seen on the Pink hill, “The Secret” (8) and “AngelA” (7) on the corner of Hradební and Dlouhá streets. “Good morning” of Moravian sculptor Pavel Drda (3) is placed in Kamenná street and “King John” (4) of Cheb industrial artist, ceramist and painter Anna Vystydová is located on Jánské náměstí.
2011 - finish of the project
Final placement was set during the celebrations of 950 years from the first historical reference of city Cheb.
First two niches (out of nine for the final step) were filled with sculptures by Jan Samec and Varvara Divišová from Karlovy Vary by 4th May. Piece of cast iron called “Fish” by Mrs. Divišová is on Židovská street and aluminium piece “Two” by Mr. Samec is to be seen on Jánské náměstí.
In the next days, another niche was filled with “Neighbours” by Stanislava Konvalinková from Český Krumlov (seen at Square of King George from Poděbrady), “Third eye” by Jaroslav Valečka from Prague (on Dlouhá street), “St. Christopher” by Vít Vejražka from Kytlice (on Růžová street), “Dreamer” by Eva Vejražková from Prague (on Jateční street), “Singing butcher” by Luděk Vystyd jr. from Cheb (also on Jateční street), “The saint” by Anna Vystydová from Cheb (on Židovská street) and “Little girl” by Miro Žáčok from České Budějovice (on Jateční street).
On 5.28.2011 will be held from 15.30 clock the festive visit, which begins front of the Cheb Museum (Market of the King George) and ends in the cloister of the Franciscan monastery.
